Procedures Q. What kinds of procedures do the residents get an opportunity to do? A. The Program provides experience with the following procedures and residents can choose which they prefer to attain competence.

*After the required number of supervised procedures are performed and competence demonstrated, residents may be granted privileges to perform these procedures unsupervised. Often applicants to the program will inquire of faculty and residents as to how many deliveries do residents get to do. The following chart helps to demonstrate deliveries done by residents on the OB rotation or while on call. Because it is also important to have experience in managing patients throughout their pregnancy, data demonstrates the number of patients residents can expect to manage throughout their residency.

CALL:

Q. Another question that is frequently asked refers to "call". Obstetrics call is the only "in-house" call residents will have scheduled. This is a 6 p.m to 7 a.m. call Monday through Friday, and if scheduled for the weekend, it is a 24 hour call. First year residents can average every 4-5th night. Second and third year residents also share this schedule and average two OB calls a month.

A. Second and third year residents share in the "CFM" call schedule. This is structured using a model similar to private practice. This call averages 2-3 calls per month and may be taken from home.
